OUR PHILOSOPHY

WHO WE ARE

Fernwood Movement Academy is a team of practitioners who believe that movement literacy is foundational to rehab, prehab, and performance, and that recovery should be an active process. We strive to create a space that merges exercise and treatment to provide you with tools to connect with your body and move well for life.

WHY “MOVEMENT ACADEMY”?

We wanted to define ourselves through our goals of education and movement literacy. We don’t want to simply fix things; we want you to understand and connect with the process and your body. You will always leave your session with “homework” that will allow us to build on your skills in your next session.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Every kinesiology session begins with our assessment protocol to both track your progress and movement quality, as well as check in with your body for the day. This allows us to clear you for the day’s programming and set an intention for that session. Let’s make sure you can touch your toes before we load your lifts.

WHERE YOU WILL START

Even if you’re a great mover we have to check some things off before we get into goal setting. We’ll look at your breathing and bracing function, and identify any movement dysfunctions you may have. This is where movement literacy begins. Once we lay basic mechanics down, we can move forward and work within your limitations and discomfort while utilising exercise as a treatment.

OUR CORE VALUES

1.  AS YOU ARE

You’re treated exactly as you are when you walk through the door.

2.  FROM THE GROUND UP

We build strong movement foundations first, then build upwards toward your goals.

3.  A VOCATION, NOT AN OCCUPATION

All of our staff love what they do; it’s not just a job but a point of pride for us

4.  BUILDING MEANINGFUL CONNECTIONS

We value wellness, and believe a large part of that is building connections between practitioners and clients

5.  SUPPORTING US, SUPPORTING YOU

Our internal structure prioritises staff wellness. We want the best for us to be the best for you.
