This four-to-six week workshop series is designed to educate trades workers on proper movement mechanics to prevent workplace injuries and decrease absenteeism. We know every workplace and trade is different, and we make sure to customise these workshops to meet the needs of your team.
From landscaping to construction to shop work, every trade has its own movement patterns and injury risks. We will discuss the importance of bracing for back health and work with you to hone in on the movement patterns that are most applicable to your day-to-day job.
Each series begins with an overview of breathing and bracing, and each workshop session will review the one before to build upon the next. Expect to learn, break a sweat, and have some team-building fun!
We’ve completed our first workshop with Fernwood Movement Academy and are excited to be implementing this as an annual or biannual practice for the team. The workshop was education based and they did a great job of breaking down each subject into digestible and understandable chunks; paired with hands-on movement learning it ended up being a well-attended and engaging workshop that the team genuinely enjoyed and had fun at. We walked away knowing that if we find ourselves with injuries we have tools in our belts to help ourselves and to bounce back quicker than before. We hope to empower our staff with the knowledge that they have the ability to help prevent injuries on and off the job. I would highly recommend the program to any employer who is looking for a practical and engaging session aimed at injury prevention. Thank you, FMA!
Not only did our team at Heritage Masonry look forward to coming into Fernwood Movement Academy, they also took a lot away from the experience. Between the lighthearted and fun environment and the hands-on educational component, my team walked away looking forward to the next session and with new tools in their belt. We learnt strategies to deploy for how to lift large awkward objects, a number of things to help with back and shoulder pain, and what to do to keep us out of pain. We’ve done a number of workshops with them and return annually for top-up sessions to keep our team moving and feeling well. This program helped us shift our culture towards injury prevention with the knowledge that if and when we did pick up aches and pains we had the tools to bounce back quickly. Short and long term injuries are way down from before we started with FMA 4 years ago.
